Meta-Forum Stuff

Postby wombatron on Wed Jun 03, 2009 8:43 pm

Now that it's really starting to bustle around here, I thought I would start a thread on discussing things about the forum itself, and where we want to take it. A couple of things:

1. Theme?

Right now, I'm just using the default FF theme. If anyone is displeased, and has any suggestions on using a different theme, or knows how to make their own, by all means, speak up! I personally think that a theme involving more black would be more... appropriate ;)

2. Logo?

I really like the black-and-orange flag logo we currently use. However, several people (including Roderick Long! Squee!) have referred to this as the ALL Forums, and here we are without an ALL symbol in sight! Perhaps it could be added to the flag...

3. Another domain?

Obviously, the Forums are currently hosted by Free Forums. This is more of an aesthetic issue for me, but I think it would be better to have our own domain. Does anyone have any experience in this? I know I've asked this before, and it didn't really go any where...

4. Motto?

I can't remember whether the "Free markets, mutual aid, and participatory democracy" thing is something I made up, or something that I heard somewhere and forgot the reference, but I think I sums up what I am for pretty well. If anyone else has any ideas, share them! I'm thinking of changing it to "Freed markets", in any case. Yay? Nay?

I actually prefer that full statement to simply "freed markets".
:P Unless you meant keeping it but simply adding that "d" in there.

Theme? No opinion other than I like black too.

Logo? I made it so I'm attached by I would fully support the ALL symbol.

Another domain? What are the disadvantages of staying?

Motto? "Lying, thieving Marxoid vandarchist collective"?

Also, anyone who has constructive criticism of the layout or format, make your voices heard. Remember, participatory democracy! :D

1. Theme?

Keep the theme simple. More black and grey, less why but it still needs to be present. For example you could have the background of the page in black, and each of the lighter blue sections of the page in grey. Use lighter grey for the background of published posts so that it contrasts well with black font and darker greys to replace the darker blues.

We're Anarchists that come from different persuasions and backgrounds. We don't really need colours to denote what our 'flavour' is.

Baby and sky blue are really starting to piss me off.

2. Logo?

Perhaps we should change the flag to all black with a white ALL symbol? Or do we like the orange?

3. Another domain?

It depends if you're willing to pay the money. Yeah, okay, it looks unprofessional with our URL shamelessly plugging freeforums like that, and it would probably be good to give off the impression that we know what we're doing.

I don't know of a domain, but you could probably ask types like Mike Gogulski or even Brad Spangler. They always seem cluey about this sort of thing.

4. Motto?

Changing the 'free market' bit to 'freed market' would be a good idea and make the task of explaining what in hell we mean, somewhat easier.

The motto really should be "Homesteading your misery since 2008"

Woah! It's different! I'm a little disoriented but I'll give it a go. Somethings about it feel less polished but the general look is net slick.

My only complaint is that the text is not purely white by default.

Actually I find the bright white jarring. But, the posters name is almost unreadable. I'll say that.

I don't know.

I like the look of the theme, but it's not as enjoyable to read. Maybe keep the background and everything black-dark gray-blue, but have the posts be black text on a light gray or blue background.
